Sorry for the late reply. I just came back from Cambridge, England, (May10-May19). I was invited by my sister to attend my niece graduation from Queen's College, Cambridge University. She got her PH. D. in education research after five years of hard work.
The congregation was on May 12, on the same day, the Wu-xia Fiction writer, JinYoun received his master degree. We did not see him, because there are thirty one colleges in Cambridge University. Jin Yong belongs to San John's. and the time of congregation was different. They divided into five times, my niece was at 1pm and I not not sure what time Jinyong's college congregated. It was a memorable experience, very solemn. The language they used during the ceremony was in Latin, but the diploma was written in English. In the United States, when I received my master degree, it was written in Latin. The ceremony of commencement is usually in English.
After the congregation on May 12, we went to London to take a four-day tours around Britain, from England, to Scotland, to northern Welsh. I had been to Britain three times, but this time, we covered four hundred miles. I have visited many places that I did not visit before, such as Shakespeare birthplace, York, Chelsea,..etc. Britain is such a lovely beautiful country, and I strongly recommend you take a trip, visiting the green field of England, the highland of Scotland, and the valleys of Welsh. I have been to Lake District twice, and each time, it reminded me of our teacher, Liu, Chi-feng. I remember he was the one who taught us the poetry of Lake District, such as William Wordsworth,...
Catalina, Aurora,A-guang, thanks you for all the nice comments on SL, me and my daughter Connie. A-Guang, she was the little girl that accompanied me back to Wen Tzao's reunion 12 years ago. She just turned 20 this April. She will be a junior at UIUC, majoring in Psychology. In July she will take a trip to Taiwan with the Christian Church to teach blind students English. She has a golden heart.
Rita, SL's professorship investiture took place on April 11. It was a big celebration for us. According to the Department news, professorships are the highest honor bestowed on campus faculty. They tell the world's academic community that members of our faculty are prominent in their fields. They also help the department recruit the best new faculty and retain the world-class professors already here.
Sorry again for the long report. I hope you have a wonderful summer.
I have to find a nice picture of my two boys. My younger son told me that I have to get his permisson to post his picture in this blog. He is quite peculiar...you know as any teenager...

Wow, I have not been visiting the blog for few weeks and I was surprised to find out that there's so much going on between May 10 and now. My best regards to Ting Huei; I am sure the ordeal was over and under your husband's tender care you will be well and strong again soon. It seems A-ti had a beautiful trip in England; thanks for sharing! We are all very proud of you and your husband's achievemnet. Do you know which orgainization/school where Connie is going to be this summer in Taiwan? The service-learning component is strong among colleges; I may check in to it and see the possibility to bring my students to do the service-learning project too.
It's great to see all your postings, friends, and it's a relief to know that though we are aging, we are still going strong and enjoying life.
You are gardening already? My house is rather shady, so I can only buy pots of floweres. Well, I live very close to university vegetable gardens where many Chinese parents plant all sorts of Chinese vegetables and sell them just to earn some pocket money. Usually I go there in the afternoon to buy fresh veges. When Ursula came to stay for two weeks a couple of years ago, she had fun buying from those amateur farmers. As a city girl, she had fun living in the country style "Orchard Downs" as a graduate student. Rita stayed there overnight too.
A-guay lived in Orchard Down for five years. I guess in her time there was no "veges" for sell. Now the garden is getting more popular. A-guay, do you miss your student days in Champaign-urbana?
Gardening? No, I have been weeding! The whole yard/garden had been neglected for more than a year; so it's time to do a huge clean up -- weeding, trimming, prunning... I don't do much veggie gardening (some cold weather varieties: peas/lettuce..). Since we won't be here during the summer, there's no point to plant other staples -- tomoatoes, green beans, peppers... As you said, they are available at the farmers' market anyway. We planted trees to replace the loss from the ice storm, and will plant more during the fall after we come back. Mainly, I tend my flower beds; bulb flowers just finished the season, so as peonies; coreopsis, primroses, oriental poppies, Asiatic lilies, roses & lavenders are blooming right now. I can see the round buds on cone flowers and shasta daisies; they should be blooming in three weeks (I will miss them).
The lovely colors help us forget the horror of the ice storm few months ago.
Thanks for the info. regarding the service trip. I didn't know Connie is a Christian. I am just curious which schools they are going to. I guess I can find out when I return this summer.
Wonderful news. So glad the surgery is behind us. With the care of 福財 and your children, I am certain 翠先 will recover well. Be patient, 翠先. After a huge surgery as this one, it will take quite a long while to regain strength.

Early this morning, I took my daughter to take passport picture and then to the post office for a new passport. What happened was SL sent her passsport to the Taiwanese Office in Chicago for a visa and it got lost in the mail. SL was frustrated, as he was such a careful person. How could it got lost? He forgot to ask them for the track number on the returned mail.
In the post office, they told us that something is fishy, that someone must have snaped the passport and according to their record the Taiwanese passport and Chinese passsport are the most wanted(snapped). I said, no, it must be Chinese, the guy said, no, Taiwanese too.
So the lesson is: Next time, if you want to send passport, use certified or express mail so they can track the number....
It has been a stressful week dealing with the passport. At this point,we don't know wheather she will be able to make it. This morning I sent her to Kentukey with the church for a week. We just emerged from our dark and cool backyard, surrounded by fireflies. We were drinking champaign outside in the dark, as SL was in the mood to celebrate the coming of summer....
SL wanted me to say "Thanks" to you, for the information. We are trying our best as I said in the email. Will let you guys know the outcome.
Hi, everyone, Didn't come to the blog for a while. Hope everything goes smoothly to all of you. Right now we are in Mountain View CA my daughter Beth's home; yesterday we attended Aaron's commissioning ceremony. Aaron is my seond child, graduating from UC Davis this summer, joining Army ROTC in the campus too. He is now a Second Lieutenant, will serve in the Ordnance corps in a base near Seatle after several months training in Geogea and Maryland. As a mother, I am not happt about the military stuff, but I repect my son's decision and am proud of him. Lih-Jane 6-26-07
I lived in Cupertino for two and half months in l999. SL was workin for NASA in Mountain View. I used to drive him to work so I could have the car. My family enjoyed the nice vacation there.
Say hi to Beth and Aaron. Aaron will grow up to be a strong young man with the training.
I had been a mother-in-law for a little while. Aaron married to that pretty girl in our family photo posted before. They were divorced 3 months later, because the girl's parents strongly against it. I didn't think it was a good idea in the first place though, but I respect their decision and gave them my blessing. They went married in Las Vegas. It's Aaron's fault; he shouldn't rush in a relationship so fast. Aaron won't be sent to Iraq, but he intends to join the combat. He tries to attend a ranger training after his basic soldier training in Maryland. Arron said, now he has no wife to worry, so he can go to Iraq. I told him, you still have a mother to worry. Seems like mother is not as important as a wife or girl friend. Lih-Jane 6-28-07
He must be heart-broken. It will be good that he gets to do what he wants for a while. He may meet someone else soon. Wish Aaron good luck.
I know a friend, whose son is in Iraq at this moment. He is an emergency room nurse aid.(I don't know the right terminalogy). I real pray for his safety. He has a big heart to help other people. I guess he is happy even he might be in danger.
Oh Lord! Where in the world you've been to? You look just as the same we were back int he old days. No wonder people were mistaken you as your daughter's sister! Glad to meet you and your family.
Are you talking to me? If so, the picture I posted here was taken at my husband's professorship investuture on April 11th this year, at University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. The professor next to him is the Dean of Engineering, professor Adesida.
Thanks for the compliments again. I am lucky to have a good Korean hairdresser.
Sorry for the late reply. I have been suffering from backache for over a week. It is painful. I was working in my backyard garden, transplanting some flower pots, and when I got up, wow, a terrible pain happened. I am also under the presure to finish a translation project that requires a lot of sitting, which is bad for the back.
Well, we all have to take care of our body. It needs fix-up all the time.
Margarita, hopefully you heart is jumping as happy as before by now.
Due to some severe technical problems, Peilin and I have difficulty to access this blog, therefore, we can't post more photos on this blog. To keep our communication going on forever, I opened a new blog account. Peilin and I will post more photos on that new blog in the future! In the meantime, leave your new postings on the new blog!
http://wenzaogs.blogspot.com/
I apologize for the incoveninece; but it has been an awful experience for both Peilin and I to try to get on our old blog lately! It took so much time and energy (without any success). Opening a new account is probably the easiest way to deal with the tech frustration!

CT (CAT) SCAN,
Diverticulitis (a common disease of the bowel, in particular the large intestine)
(From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diverticulitis )。

SL wanted me to say "Thanks" to you, for the information. We are trying our best as I said in the email.
Will let you guys know the outcome.
Best,

Hi, everyone,
Didn't come to the blog for a while. Hope everything goes smoothly to all of you.
Right now we are in Mountain View CA my daughter Beth's home; yesterday we attended Aaron's commissioning ceremony. Aaron is my seond child, graduating from UC Davis this summer, joining Army ROTC in the campus too. He is now a Second Lieutenant, will serve in the Ordnance corps in a base near Seatle after several months training in
Geogea and Maryland.
As a mother, I am not happt about the military stuff, but I repect my son's decision and am proud of him. Lih-Jane 6-26-07

Hi, Lih-Jane:
I lived in Cupertino for two and half months in l999. SL was workin for NASA in Mountain View. I used to drive him to work so I could have the car. My family enjoyed the nice vacation there.
Say hi to Beth and Aaron. Aaron will grow up to be a strong young man with the training.

Dear All:

Dear Rita:
What a pity, we won't make it to the class reunion.
We will be in Shinchu for two nights and Taipei two nights.
Will call you on Wednesday.
Thanks.

Dear Lih-Jane:
He must be heart-broken. It will be good that he gets to do what he wants for a while. He may meet someone else soon. Wish Aaron good luck.
I know a friend, whose son is in Iraq at this moment. He is an emergency room nurse aid.(I don't know the right terminalogy). I real pray for his safety. He has a big heart to help other people. I guess he is happy even he might be in danger.
Take care, do not worry too much.

Take care, folks.

My dear friends,
Due to some severe technical problems, Peilin and I have difficulty to access this blog, therefore, we can't post more photos on this blog.
